Top 6 Colorado Wedding Planning Mistakes in 2022

We know wedding planning takes a lot of time and energy and there is a lot of pressure to do everything “right”.

We have combined over 10 years of wedding planning experience from the Creekside Event Center Coordinators to create a list of “mistakes” that we see Colorado couples make that we hope you will avoid.

The mistakes we will cover are:

1. Not planning ahead (a HUGE Colorado wedding planning mistake!)

2. Not being true to you.

3. Not making a rain plan. Yikes.

4. Trying to do everything yourself.

5. Getting lost on Pinterest.

6. Not having an “after the wedding” clean-up plan.

Here are our top 6 wedding planning mistakes.

1. Not planning ahead.

If there is a specific date or photographer you know you HAVE TO HAVE, make sure you plan in advance. A lot of times, fun and memorable dates are booked more than a year in advance (example: 10/10/20 or 2/22/22). Photographers can be the same way, so if there is someone’s photography or style that you have been eyeing for a while, make sure you reach out promptly to get it booked!

2022 is apparently going to be the biggest wedding year since 1984 so in order to reserve the vendors you love, you’ll need to reach out before they’re booked solid. We know Allison Easterling Photography is already fully booked for this year!

2. Not being true to you.

You don’t have to do whatever the current wedding trend is. If you like something more traditional or something a lot of couples don’t do, who cares! It is about you and your fiance, so make it true to you and who you are. Adding your own personal style can be anything from a different type or color wedding dress, non-traditional dinner food or having a fun and interactive guest book

3. Not making a rain plan…

Especially in Colorado where the weather changes within minutes, you will want to have a backup plan in case the weather takes a turn for the worst! Prime wedding months in the early summer get the most rainfall on average than other months. All states are a little different, but in Colorado, a rain storm can appear within minutes and delaying your ceremony time may not be an option when there is a timeline to stick to and vendors that are paid for a specific amount of time.

4. Trying to do everything yourself.

Wedding planning can get overwhelming and it is always nice to have someone helping with the timeline, details and executing day-of! A lot of brides want to be hands-on when it comes to wedding planning, and that is still possible. However, it is often overlooked how nice it can be to have someone walking you through the small details to make sure nothing was forgotten (like pens for your guest book or a plate for the cake after cutting it).

Not to mention, the last thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is stressing and setting things up in between getting your hair and makeup done. At Creekside Event Center, we provide wedding planning assistance and a wedding coordinator for the day-of. So sit back and relax, spend time with your friends and family, and let your planner take care of the rest. I promise, it is worth it!

5. Getting lost on Pinterest.

Pinterest can be great for gathering ideas, but when scrolling through remember that a lot of the photos on there are for styled shoots and are going to involve a lot of work, time and money for a whole wedding set-up. Pinterest can be a great tool to get ideas for floor plan, color scheme, bridal party colors and florals. Here is a link to Creekside’s Pinterest page. However, keep in mind this is gathering ideas and not copying exactly. Not everything on Pinterest can be copied on a large scale. Dreaming up something that just isn’t practical is a key mistake we see Colorado brides make.

6. Not having an “after the wedding” clean up plan.

Will you be doing a grand send-off? If so, who is going to be in charge of grabbing all of your things? As wedding coordinators, we have seen how much of a stressor this can be at the end of the night. Everyone has had a good time and they are ready to go home, but they have to grab all of their stuff before heading out. Our personal advice is to have someone in charge of the clean-up and all your decor items especially if you and your new boo are doing a grand send-off. This way, you do not have to be worried about who will be grabbing what and if everyone knows what is yours and needs to be packed up.

If you are getting ready onsite, another great idea is to put together your bag of all the beauty items and clothes you brought to the venue before going down the aisle so that you can grab your stuff super easily at the end of the night and you know it is all there! Whatever you decide to do, this is something that should be thought about and planned out prior to the wedding day to avoid the stress of cleaning up and the fear of leaving something!
