5 tips to help make the planning of your Colorado dream wedding as easy and enjoyable as possible!
1. Always Have a Plan B.
Those of you grew are up in Colorado are probably aware, but those planning a Colorado destination wedding may not know – there always needs to be a “Plan B.” The weather in our great state is what we like to call, moody. There’s a common saying in Colorado that goes, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” It can be bright and sunny skies and a few minutes later there is a high advisory windstorm. Now, with that being said, the risk is usually worth it. The Colorado landscape is beautiful for any wedding! Just make sure you completely think through what your Plan B is.
If you choose Creekside Event Center for your wedding venue, you will always have beautiful backup plan.
2. Prepare Out of Town Guests for the Elements.
Many people traveling into Colorado know to drink lots of water because of the high altitude, slather on the sunscreen, and bring an umbrella for the predictable afternoon rain shower, but others may not know. We would advise you to write a few sentences on your wedding website, making sure your family and friends traveling from afar are prepared for a Colorado wedding!
3. Set Realistic Photo Expectations.
Pinterest is full of pin-worthy golden hour photos. However, I didn’t know until I became a wedding planner in Colorado that the mountains typically block the sunset. So, those photos you’ve been pinning may not be possible for all Colorado weddings. If you’re getting married in the plains, you will have a better chance because of the way the light beams linger. Try to keep this in mind when you show your photographer the photos you’ve been admiring. Although we may not have a great golden hour, we do have an incredible “blue hour,” or the 30-60 minutes after the sunset.
Yet, that golden hour is worth giving up for the beautiful and diverse Colorado landscapes you are gaining — trust us! At Creekside, our couples have an incredible natural photo backdrop. A large portion of our property is tree-lined, allowing our couples to capture some enchanting and naturally beautiful wedding photos.
4. Consider an All-Inclusive Venue.
If you’re considering a DIY wedding at a park or another such property, before you get stuck on an specific location, do a quick search to see if you will need a permit. Colorado has some amazingly beautiful natural, outdoor locations, but a lot of this responsibility (and cost) will fall on you to obtain the permit and get all of the necessary items there (like the chairs, tables, linens, decor, food, and even restrooms!). It could save you a ton of time, stress, and even some money to go with an all-inclusive wedding venue.
In fact, Creekside Event Center provides impeccable service through top local vendors at very competitive rates. It can be difficult to know how much you should allot to each budget item when you’re first getting started with the wedding planning process since prices among vendors can vary greatly. If you’re considering a DIY wedding, we would encourage you to add up every small and large expense. Then, weigh it to see if what you’re saving is worth the time and energy (perhaps even the blood, sweat, and tears) you will spend working out all the details of your wedding day.
5. Resist the Urge to Elope.
You probably saw this coming, huh? If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the wedding planning process, it can be tempting to want to throw the whole wedding out the window and just elope together. However, wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful! At Creekside Event Center, a wedding coordinator will walk you through the wedding planning process and keep the details of your day straight so that you don’t have to. AND, for all weddings booked in 2018, you’ll also receive free day-of coordination services! That way every step of the planning and the wedding day goes smoothly.
